Ludo Tips & Strategy: 12 Ways to Win More Ludo Games

6 min read · Updated November 2026 · YonoMoreGames

You can’t control the dice, but you can control which token moves. These tips work in classic and online Ludo. There are no dice “hacks”; apps that claim them are scams.

Opening

  1. Open more than one token early. Having options means each roll is useful.
  2. Use sixes to bring tokens out unless a capture or escape is worth more.

Moving safely

  1. Stop on safe (star) squares when an opponent is within 6 squares behind you.
  2. Count threats. A token 1–6 squares in front of an opponent is at risk; 7+ is safe from a single roll (except by sixes).
  3. Don’t leave a token just outside an opponent’s yard: new tokens enter there.
  4. Form blocks (two tokens together) where the rules allow, to stop opponents passing.

Attacking

  1. Capture when it’s cheap, especially tokens that are far along the track.
  2. Chase from behind: staying 1–6 squares behind an opponent threatens it.

Endgame

  1. Get tokens into the home column, where they are safe, then use small rolls to finish.
  2. Keep one token flexible to use rolls that don’t fit the others.

Timer and online modes

  1. In Timer Ludo, avoid being captured late, because you lose that token’s points.
  2. Bankroll: play low-stake tables, set a loss limit and stop when you hit it.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a trick to always win Ludo?

No. Dice are random, so no trick guarantees wins. Good token management simply improves your odds over many games.

Should I open all tokens or focus on one?

Open two or more early for flexibility, but push your most advanced token home when it is safe.

Are Ludo dice in apps rigged?

Reputable apps use random number generators. Avoid apps or "hack" tools that promise controlled dice.

What is the best Ludo strategy for Timer mode?

Score steadily, capture when safe, and avoid exposed tokens near the end, since a captured token loses its points.
