Teen Patti vs Poker: Key Differences in Rules, Hands & Betting

4 min read · Updated October 2026 · Yono Games Hub

Teen Patti is often called “Indian poker”, and the two games share ideas, but the rules differ in important ways. Here is a plain comparison.

Teen Patti Texas Hold’em Poker
Cards in hand 3 private cards 2 private cards + 5 shared
Final hand All 3 cards Best 5 of 7 cards
Betting rounds One continuous round of betting Four rounds (pre-flop, flop, turn, river)
Hand ranking Trail, Pure Sequence, Sequence, Color, Pair, High Card Royal Flush down to High Card (10 hands)
Special betting Blind vs seen, side show, show Check, call, raise, fold
Starting stake Boot (ante) Blinds

Hand rankings are different

In three-card hands, a Sequence is rarer than a Color, so in Teen Patti a Sequence ranks higher. In five-card poker the order is reversed (a Flush beats a Straight). See the full Teen Patti hand rankings.

Blind and seen betting is unique to Teen Patti

Poker has no equivalent of playing blind. A Teen Patti player can keep their cards unseen and bet at half the cost, which changes how bluffing and pot odds work. Read the Teen Patti rules for how blind and seen bets are priced.

Which is easier to learn?

Teen Patti has fewer hands and one betting round, so most beginners pick it up faster. Poker rewards deeper long-term skill because of the shared cards and extra betting rounds.

Frequently asked questions

Is Teen Patti the same as poker?

No. Teen Patti uses three private cards and a single betting round, while Texas Hold'em uses two private cards, five shared cards and four betting rounds. The hand rankings also differ.

Is Teen Patti easier than poker?

Most beginners find Teen Patti easier because there are fewer hands and only one betting round.

Why does a Sequence beat a Color in Teen Patti but not in poker?

With three cards, a Sequence is less likely than a Color, so it ranks higher. With five cards the odds reverse, so a Flush beats a Straight.

What is Teen Patti called in English?

It is commonly called Indian Poker or three-card poker, though the rules are not identical to either.
